Creating Virtual Lab Environment – Part 6

Step 14 – Installing vCenter Server

  1. Attach vCenter Installation ISO to vCenter VM.

  2. Start vCenter Server Installation

  4. Enter Organization name such as XYZ then Next.

  5. Select Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Option. This is only Lab environment, so SQL Express will work fine, but in your production environment, you should choose remote Database Server option.

  6. Select default Service Account.

  7. You may receive FQDN warning but ignore this. This is due to reverse lookup. If you have Reverse Lookup Zone configured, then you will not get this message.

  8. Select Default Installation Location.

  9. Select Standalone vCenter Server instance.

  10. Keep default port numbers.

  11. Keep Small Inventory Size

  12. Don’t select Ephemeral Port Setting, you will not have 2000 virtual machines in this lab environment.

  13. Then proceed to complete the installation.
  14. Your vCenter Server is ready now. By now you should have everything you need to kick start your vSphere Lab Exercises. In Part – 7 of this instruction, we will just verify that all components are working fine.
